Hi! I am Abigail Moody, the artist behind this mail club and owner of Moody Muse Creations. I am a biologist as well as science teacher, and I love the practicing present-mindedness through creating art and observing this world we share. As humans, we experience the world through remarkable senses. We hear movement in the wind, feel the warmth of sunlight and the coolness of a stream, notice the shifting colors of the seasons, and watch countless relationships unfold between people, plants, and animals. The more attentively we observe—from the smallest details to the intricate balance of entire ecosystems—the richer our experience of life becomes. I don't paint or illustrate moments to preserve them forever, but to celebrate that I was fortunate enough to witness them. A garden snake disappearing into tall grass. Two people whose hands have found each other every day for forty years. The way afternoon light catches a stand of aspens. Every day offers countless quiet moments waiting to be noticed. Learning to observe with intention invites us into the present, with that bringing a greater sense of appreciation for the day get to live. Whether we're exploring somewhere entirely new or walking the same familiar trail we've taken for years, there is always something worth celebrating. Nature reminds us of this especially well. By becoming familiar with the plants, fungi, birds, insects, and animals that share our neighborhoods, we begin to know our wild neighbors—and perhaps ourselves—a little better. Spending time outdoors has long been associated with reduced stress and improved well-being, and I believe one reason is that it teaches us how to pay attention. This club is an invitation to practice that art of noticing together--through the practice of keeping field notes of our explorations. Each month, members receive a thoughtfully curated collection designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and observation. Witch of the Wood Mail Club

Greetings from the Witch of the Wood! If you've found your way here, you are likely familiar with my little library of Pagan and animist picture books for children. Everything I make is inspired by global mythology, folk magic, and folklore. I work slowly by hand with intention, whimsy, and a pinch of magic. I am so excited to connect with my readers the old fashioned way! This subscription is an invitation for families (children especially) to read how a real "Witch of the Wood," weathers the seasons with her family each month. The tone of my letters will be like the tone of my books... authentic, well researched, historically rooted, and earth-centered whimsy. My work is not Wiccan, but my monthly letters will follow the seasons and their holidays, such as the Celtic Fire Festivals. I do a bit of comparative mythology, folklore, and paganism in every letter. I think it encourages curiosity, imagination, and an inclusive heart, to offer children a glimpse of how people around the world have formed different relationships with this wild animate world, and the magic and stories born from that. For those of us who feel far removed from the land or traditions of our ancestors, these stories can inspire us to form new relationships and traditions with the places we call home today, drawing on the wisdom and imagination of those who came before us. The overall message is always, "I am part of something magical." Each little mailing will be 4x6 inches (I LOVE tiny things), and include a new art print inspired by the letter's content, a two page letter, occasional stickers, and a little coloring card. When relevant I'll include things like simple recipes, new authentic spells and nature-centered prayers or rituals, and their historical context. Each monthly art card will tell the story of a cozy mouse family, living the practices mentioned in my letters as the year goes round, which makes it fun to collect all 12! I welcome replies from children who want to write the Witch of the Wood, and with permission will gladly showcase those on social media (minus any identifying information of course). Within healthy boundaries I will reply personally to a few letters every month, but realistically may not be able to respond to everyone. -The Witch of the Wood
